Yin yoga serves as the counterpart to your Yang practice and helps to bring your mind and body into balance. Your Yang practice includes any activity that is active and heating, such as vinyasa yoga, exercise, and our daily busy schedules, where your attention is focused outward and you are constantly receiving input.
Yin yoga is calming and cooling, attention is focused inward, and outside influences are reduced to allow mind and body to rest. Supportive postures are held for 3-5 minutes, allowing you to find moments of peace and introspection while strengthening ligaments, tendons and tissues involved in the joints.
Expect props, quiet space, gentle movement to awaken joints, and longer held postures to allow you to stretch into the fascial networks and deeper connective tissues that surround your muscles.
